So I did try that. After copying some files, OI Thunderbird did show both of my accounts. It was able to load email from my Dovecot server just fine but it was clearly-hung up for accessing Gmail.
Since others are able to still able to use Gmail, I assume that Gmail has made some subtle authentication change that causes problems with OI's Thunderbird when a new account is added.
