Caro Luís,

Como
     c sen(B) = b sen(C) = h_a,
então
     |b - c| / h_a = |sen(C) - sen(B)|.

Logo, usando transformação em produto,
     |b - c| / h_a = |2sen((C-B)/2) cos((C+B)/2)| = |2sen((C-B)/2)
cos((180-A)/2)| = |2sen((C-B)/2) cos(90 - A/2)| = |2sen((C-B)/2) sen (A/2)|
e assim
  |sen((C-B)/2)| = (|b - c| / h_a) / (2 sen(A/2)).

Lembrando que
   cos(2x) = -+ raiz(1 - sen^2(2x)) = 1 - 2sen^2(x),
então
   sen(2x) = -+ raiz(1 - (1 - 2sen^2(x))^2),
e assim, tem-se que
  |sen(C-B)| = raiz(1 - (1 - 2sen^2((C-B)/2))^2),
onde sen((C-B)/2) é dado acima.

Agora, como o seu interlocutor falou, daí a deduzir a construção...
