The MERLIN pair have returned to their territory near my house in Constantia.
They were both calling yesterday and hanging around one of their favored
perches from last summer. I did not see either of them go near the old nest
tree, so I am not sure if they plan to reuse that nest or build another one.

I made a quick pass through Constantia and West Monroe yesterday morning, with
some favorable results. There were still 6 RED-NECKED GREBES on Oneida Lake,
viewed from Mill St, along with 66 BUFFLEHEAD, 3 COMMON MERGANSERS, 5
RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 4 HORNED GREBE, and 46 COMMON GOLDENEYE.

On Toad Harbor Rd, SWAMP SPARROWS were singing in the wetland at the bottom of
the golf course, and a WILSON’S SNIPE was winnowing from the big field on the
right side of the road about 1/4 mile past Omara Rd. A BROWN THRASHER was
singing from the area of pines and spruces along McCloud Rd as you approach the
woods for Phillips Pt, and the single drake AMERICAN WIGEON hanging with the
MALLARDS on the back end of Phillips Pt was my first of the season.

Along Hellinger Rd in West Monroe, there were 3 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, a single
WILD TURKEY, and a hunting NORTHERN HARRIER over the wet farmers field on the
western side of the road. I heard another SNIPE here too.
