All,
I belong to a group called the Canal Nest Colony [
http://www.thiscityismine.com/gowanus/ ]. We are trying to develop /
enhance bird habitat in Southwest Brooklyn along the Gowanus Canal while
creating interesting artistic installations in the process. We have been
working closely with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy [
http://www.gowanuscanalconservancy.org/ ] to build and install a series of
birdhouses for Little Borwn Bats, Kestrels and Bluebirds. We've installed a
large number of houses to date and plan to have another public workshop on
Saturday October 17. Volunteers are encouraged to come out to the Gowanus
Canal and help us out.

Our next step is to develop a stewardship program for the birshouses.
The objectives are twofold - 1. to gather data on what birds decide to nest
in the area and 2. we intend to cull undesirable invasive species from the
bird houses when they move in. As a group of designers, we have limited
knowledge of best stewardship and data-gathering practices. None of us are
terribly profficient at identifying birds either. Therefor, we need to
enlist some bird enthusiasts to help us design and operate the stewardship
program. This is an open-call to any individuals that might be interested
in working on this project with us. If so, please contact me via e-mail.
Thank you for your time.

Regards,
    Hans
