Javascript can be very useful, but should not be essential to use a 
site. More so now than ever, given the large number of security holes 
in other browser's implementations, which has lead to many corporate 
security policies mandating that scripting is disabled. This has lead 
to an increase in the number of commerce and banking sites which work 
with NetSurf now that they no longer insist on javascript to function.
