I have mailboxes from ~1000 up to 20.000 emails and the hcache speedup is clearly noticeable with all of them. I just deleted the cache file and compared the speed of the first mailbox read to the cached one. It's a huge improvement. Btw: which hcache backend do you use? I'm using GDBM, and hcache is really extremly fast.
