Some IMAP servers don't allow multiple clients to have the same
mailbox open simultaneously.

Mutt doesn't care.

The last time I used the Courier IMAP server, it refused to allow more
than one client to open a mailbox at a time. If you did a second open
operation from a different client, the first client got the boot.
Courier IMAP also choked on certain mailbox names and had various
other usability problems -- I was quite happy to leave it behind.

AFAICT, Exchange, Gmail, and Dovecot IMAP servers handle it fine. I
regularly have simultaneous mutt sessions open in the same folder with
Gmail's IMAP server and have never seen any problems.
