Dean -- ...and then Dean Richard Benson said... % % Hi all
Hello! % % I post to a few different groups - mutt-users being just one of them. % % I have a question tho regarding the usage of mutt/groups/spam. % % A lot of the spam I receive these days is to addresses that I have Yeah. Very much a bummer. % previously used to post to newsgroups. So how do others handle posting % to newsgroups/mailing lists without getting flooded with spam. % % A few things spring to mind. % % 1. Do many people use the "X-No-Archive: Yes" Header to prevent their % postings appearing on google groups. Is this bad practice to use by % default in emails etc? I don't, so I can't provide any opinion there. % % 2. Do many people use a fake email address from? Ie, % [EMAIL PROTECTED] While some folks do address mangling in their signatures, I don't know of anyone who actually subscribes to a mailing list with a fake sig and manages to get the postings :-) I don't know about most list software, but you could try using a TMDA-like approach of a limited-time mailing address, though you might have to resubscribe every <time_period_interval> to be able to post. You could define a list-only address so that only the list server itself can send you mail there but then you have to tell people reading the posts how to reply to you directly should they wish to. % % 3. Is the above (point 2) is true, then is there any worth in using your % pgp(gpg) signature in emails to lists such as this one? (since % [EMAIL PROTECTED] won't be the same as my pgp key?) Weeeelllll... Your key id is in your signature and so gpg can go and find your key and so if you establish in the text body that you wrote it your key will corroborate that, but I think it does, indeed, dilute things to have your message come from some other address. % % Advice on any of the above would be appreciated. I just use spamassassin (one of these days I'll work on TMDA) and don't worry much about the spam any more. % % Oh, and "YTH" (yes that helped) - before anyone gives a HTH. % % ... % % and I am having a nice day - thanks! ;) Well, fine. I guess that says it all :-) % % Dean ___ & ____ :-D -- David T-G * It's easier to fight for one's principles (play) [EMAIL PROTECTED] * than to live up to them. -- fortune cookie (work) [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.justpickone.org/davidtg/ Shpx gur Pbzzhavpngvbaf Qrprapl Npg!
