When you build your mutt you can enable or disable debugging, and then
when you run mutt with -d you'll get a debug log file (perhaps debug.log)
in the current directory.  Check out

  mutt -v | grep DEBUG

to see if you get 

  +DEBUG

or not; if you don't have that, then you'll want to recompile.
