Well, unless you're going to tell me this message is badly signed or something I think I've finally got it. I didn't use your -05 file in the end but managed to sort the patch and the switches. Hooray :) I like the sound of the project though, someone should try to make it all a little easier for the non-10yrs unix programmer types.
