well there's always a happy middle ground.  'Becky!' has an openPGP
plugin i'm told, and should work with PGP/Mime mails if this plugin is
installed.  there's a link to the main site for this at:

it's not freeware, but you can download a trial for free, and it seems
quite nice. this might be easier for an Outhouse user to get used to
than mutt.
