I will try that. In fact I can already do something very close as I do
read a few mail messages on the mail account that comes automatically
in out place with the PC, but I use Pegusus not NS. I have been discouraging
use of that e-mail address as I prefer everything on the unix server with
mutt.

I was intending to play with this further too, but I was under the impression
that docserver was to run on a NT machine and that you put open.pl in
the mailcap. It with open.pl that I am having problems in understanding 
what is going on. 

I had another suggestion about using IMAP but I need to think about that one.
