A couple more quick comments. The options in init.h should be sorted.I would prefer the new options be prefixed by "status" to make them more discoverable. For displaying, I would suggest either it be called "status", like "help", or "status_visible", like "sidebar_visible".
I don't have any ideas about a good name for the second one, but again prefix it with "status_".
