 I am attaching here.

 One observation that might be relevant (I'm not a programmer, so I'm just
 guessing).  Whenever I attempt to build from a freshly-cloned repo, or my
 old repo after "hg update null; rm * .deps; hg update -r blah", I have to
 run 'prepare' instead of configure.  When I do this, I first see an error
 like this:

 configure.ac:6: error: possibly undefined macro: m4_esyscmd_s

       If this token and others are legitimate, please use
 m4_pattern_allow.
       See the Autoconf documentation.

 autoreconf: /usr/bin/autoconf failed with exit status: 1

 I don't think it's always that particular macro, but this error has been
 occuring for years now, on all sorts of versions of OSX with all sorts of
 versions of XCode and friends.  If I just rerun prepare with the same
 flags, it eventually configures.
