No! What you say is not possible. It takes only a few seconds thought to
destroy your argument. I was told once that the error correction on a
particular model of disk drive guaranteed I would never see bad data
from it. One fine morning, the OS informed me that on a particular file,
the forced error bit was set. This meant that either the data was bad or
the ECC was bad but neither the drive nor the OS could sort out which.
The guarantee you mention is like a Midas Muffler guarantee. It is good
as long as I can remember where I filed the paper work.
