        Well, at $1.50 per DVD-R it'll only take 40 or 50 tests to cost the
        same as a newer DVD player ;)   Philips 726 is ~$70 here.

        miniDVD will work with software players so you can use Ogle or Xine
        to do some testing with.

        My portable DVD player is the same way - it will not recognized any
        DVD rewriteable media.   For testing I use the Philips DVD player
        in the TV room - that unit recognizes all the DVD media except DVDRAM.
        I don't know of any DVD player that recognizes DVD-RAM - seems only
        the DVD-Recorders know about DVD-RAM.
