I have not found any hardware DVD player that will play the miniDVD format. Seems that the players make a check for what type of media is loaded and if they find "CD-R/RW" then they do not look for the DVD filesystem structure. Software players will play the miniDVD format so it is possible to do some testing that way. For testing I use DVD+RW (or DVD-RW which is slower to start and fixate the disc).
