        No, it is not required.    Oh, movtar has been removed completely
        from the upcoming release.  Use libquicktime for >2GB file support
        (it works quite well from what I've heard).

        The only thing, that I know of, which uses jpeg-mmx is the mjpeg
        handling in the lav* tools.   The encoder (mpeg2enc) itself does
        not use jpeg-mmx.

        Release plans are being discussed.   There might be a release
        candidate available for testing available soon.
