Is there a maximal bitrate, apart from the total > maximum of 10.08Mbit/s? Not really. The default bitrate setting is 8500kBit. You can go higher, but you might have than problems when you want to multiplex a second audio stream (mp2 or PCM or Dolby 5.1 ...) to the stream. If you encode near the real limit you might have to reencode the stream. With the default settings you have some reserves.
