There was a thread "standard SVCD cannot be played" from late last year on
problems with certain DVD players not being able to play SVCDs properly; I
am unlucky enough to have one of these beasts (a cheap Panasonic 5-disc
player). It plays VCDs (created in Kino on Linux) just fine in all their
low-res glory, but standard SVCDs are very jerky, almost half-speed, as
described by others on this list.

I found the following link, which suggested a workaround. I am not using
vcdeasy (or Windows) so haven't tried it:

 http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?name=_Guides&id=VcdTrick

As far as I can gather from that page, you should be able to get
SVCD/MPEG-2 quality video, but you would be limited to MPEG-1 features.

Does anyone know precisely what this is doing?? And, assuming it is
actually a good way to get SVCD's to work on defective DVD players, could
the same thing be accomplished using mjpeg-tools (mplex??)?

I am an absolute rank amateur at this, having only created a couple of
VCDs in Kino, and I haven't got brave enough to actually change any of the
standard options, so I really know nothing of mjpegtools. I had a look at
the documentation on creating SVCDs and couldn't figure out how to do this
header swap (if it is indeed possible, or adviseable).

What I am looking for is what options to pass to mjpegtools in the export
dialogue in Kino to achieve this.

Thanks,

Bruce
