Subject: [xine-user] Can Xine handle 4.5GB MJPEG .avi files?

Hi,

I recorded using "streamer" a 2-hour video stream to an MJPEG format .avi
file. It came to 4.5GB on my hard drive (RedHat Linux 8.0, ext3 file system,
WinTV-PCI capture card) at 30fps NTSC.

I used the commands hinted at in the streamer help text:

===========================================================================
    streamer -t 2:00:00 -s 352x240 -n ntsc -r 30 -o movie.avi -f mjpeg -F stereo
    lav2wav +p movie.avi | mp2enc -o audio.mp2
    lav2yuv +p movie.avi | mpeg2enc -o video.m1v
    mplex audio.mp2 video.m1v -o movie.mpg
===========================================================================

I guess I should say first of all, I tried to play movie.avi with xine (a
recent CVS version from last week) and it hung for a long time, never did play
(I just killed the process).

However, when I used the mjpeg-tools commands to build the movie.mpg, it came
to about 580MB. I was torn between being impressed with the compression and
video quality, and a bit confused by the size -- until xine reached the "end"
of the .mpg file at 59:14. It appears not to have encoded the entire movie.

Did I do something wrong? Or am I hitting up against a hard limit of some
kind? (I seem to recall something about AVI's and 2GB limits).

I've read most if not all the docs that came with mjpeg-tools, avifile and
xine, but I don't remember seeing anything which would point out where I went
wrong (but reading comprehension and retention seem to dimish with age! ;-).

Can anyone here point me in the right direction or show me what I did wrong?

Thanks in advance...
