There is, supposedly, double side media available. Problem is there's
        nowhere to write/label/print on it.

In this case I do not believe the BMCs have much to do with it. Dual
layer discs are manufactured by gluing two substrates together rather
than recording thru the top layer. I do not see DVD9 "recorders"
any time soon. Might happen eventually but the media would be
very expensive. Dual sided media should become more widely
        available with time though.

DVD burners are mainstream now today. DELL, HP, Apple, etc are all
shipping systems with DVD burners. Media is close to being as
cheap (per megabyte). A $2 DVD+R disc is about the same cost/MB
as 6 $0.35 CD-R discs. DVD-R media can be obtained for less depending
on the brand ($1 in bulk). True you can get CD-R media for $0.06 after
discounts/rebates. I do not see DVD media going _that_ low any time
        soon though.

I've more or less converted over to DVD+R/+RW but use CD-R for the
smaller datasets and SVCD creation. Too bad the DVD media can't
be formatted with Mode2Form2 sectors - a 4GB XSVCD would be a wild
        thing to see :)

Does 'vcdimager' know what a CVD is? The mjpegtools suite would
have no problem creating a 352x480 SVCD but I wonder if vcdimager
would then create a useful .bin/.cue fileset from the file(s). Right
now the biggest single advantage of CVD/SVCD is the ability to
create menus, selections, navigation, etc. For videos that I just
want to autoplay from start to finish the current DVD creation
capability is entirely adequate - but I am thinking of getting a MAC
        to create better DVDs ;)

        Cheers,
        Steven Schultz
