I would go for the IBM/Lenovo T series or if you want an older machine
go for the R series.

I have good experience with the R51 and T61 (R51 is pre lenovo)

If you want some other brand, go for HP.

I would stay away from the Dell's.
We have them at work and I hate them.
Also, the Acer's tend to go bad very young so might want to stay away
from those as well.

Of course, all of this is my personal experience/opinion, YMMV.
