Hi Chris,

This all seems to be a problem with your Desktop

I've often had problems copying large files from Windows clients to other machines using the Explorer copy (including Windows-to-Windows, so I'm not convinced this is Samba)

I usually batch the files into ~ 50Mb at a time, or use a different copying mechanism/program (or a script
to copy n directories across at a time.)

Try Google with "windows copy large files hangs" or something like that - lots to read.

My experience is more with Windows 2003 server, but there is definitely something in MS code.

And Vista still has issues ... just new ones. 8-)

I copy several Gig each day from Windows to OpenBSD 4.2 with Samba, and from FreeBSD to the same OpenBSD box - no problems at all (the stuff is pulled across from Windows via smbclient.) On another network, there are ~8 Windows boxes connected to a different, stock i386 OpenBSD 4.2 with Samba - no issues.

See if you can find a different copying program ...
