The problem with overwriting keys in RAM while the computer's running is that it makes it a lot harder to do the encryption without the keys. The question is, after you push off, how long does it take someone to boot their OS and read your data and how does this compare with the lifetime of your data? Is it possible to make booting the computer slower than that? Like, if I use a BIOS password, can they still boot from a CD in 30 seconds, 5 minutes, whatever?
