Doesn't seem like the drive is struggling. They don't have a fan, but
have a heat
dispersing casing. The drive feels cold anyway.
I was able to dd a dvd into /dev/null without any errors.

USB 2.0, it's a umass0: DMI USB2.0 Storage Device, rev 2.00/0.01, addr 2
