I actually had this unit for long time, connected as an IDE, never had
any problems with it.
I'm putting it in an enclosure because it started to overheat inside
the case with that new
hardware I got recently.

oh, I meant dmesg that covers the time frame when a dvd was attempted
to be burned.
Well, lemme waste another blank or two....

never had problem writing with that unit at top speed as IDE....
Well, here is the cdrecord dvd, at speed#1, no better. Failed after 27Mb.
