as im sure others have mentioned... right there at the main-result of search... Decomm at end-of-Jan-2025 <https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Tools/12.4.0/com.vmware.vsphere.vmwaretools.doc/GUID-8B6EA5B7-453B-48AA-92E5-DB7F061341D1.html> open-vm-tools is not something that is even designed with obsd in mind... it is for linux (or maybe the compatibility-layer to linux in freebsd) primarily...
Note: Use of open-vm-tools with a OS distribution which is not listed under VMware > Compatibility Guide must be certified by VMware. imho - it seems fairly obvious that "certification from Broadcom" is not something that is interesting for obsd-devs... not an ISC/MIT-type licensing agreement, im sure... in particular, as a GUEST os in a vmware hypervisor - i doubt that there are hardware-guarantees that obsd (as opposed to actual h/w) wants to make... obsd has its own hypervisor vmd <https://man.openbsd.org/vmd>, which is well-supported for deploying further obsd-guests... anyways, gl on your experiences with obsd... :-)
