This particular model and a few like it have never worked well. And if it's
the same one I'm thinking about, it doesn't resume properly in Linux either
(could be wrong).

I'd say just use ZZZ. None of the developers has one of these anymore as
far as I know, so any debugging would be difficult. I posted a message to
tech or misc last year about how to troubleshoot resume issues, if you want
to dig into it yourself. Follow those troubleshooting steps and come back when
you've found the device or operation that is hanging the resume.
