You are generalizing improperly. > I somewhat get why GUIs are maybe insecure, sloppy, > not as robust and maybe a little tacky. When you use a GUI you are doing it manually. In other words, "User Interface" and "manually" are two different words for the same concept. > Using them is not really my point anymore. But to not offer an obvious > way to access built-in features that make too much sense to ignore > (at least to me) and would make for a good computing experience, > seems odd. I mean you have a way to choose a system mirror for the > install/upgrade, why not to choose a pkg_add mirror after you install. First off, "obvious" has to do with training and education. If something is not obvious that means that you do not understand it. Second, choice of mirror depends on things like where you are, and network structure and things like that. But it's not safe to assume that you will have access to a network, let alone a mirror. Or maybe you will need to be building your own. But also, not everyone wants to be running a GUI. There are real applications where a GUI causes more problems then it solves. Then again, if you are a business minded person, every problem is a business opportunity. So if you think this is a serious issue, it's a chance for you to make some serious money. Keep in mind, though, no matter what you choose, some people will hate your choices. Good luck, -- Raul
