Because you should not touch rc.conf; sndiod_flags _must_ be added to rc.conf.local. If you don't understand why, then have a look at the backward compat code in /etc/rc.conf. Also, from rc.conf(8): "It is advisable to leave rc.conf untouched, and instead create and edit a new rc.conf.local file." -- Antoine
