I've done a lot of testing on one machine using vmware player and I haven't noticed the reduced HDD I/O and net which should be as fast as loopback is fast enough. From tests I do know HDD I/O is reduced though. It is annoying the way it seems to incessantly eat hdd space in your home partition though. It can be fixed but I haven't risked the alleged potential instability yet. My socket on the machine I want to use doesn't have hardware virtualisation support unfortunately, though my TV does.
