Why videos (in video players like vlc & mpv) wouldn't have predictable rate?

Them being able to use VRR to get refresh rate that exactly matches the video's frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 etc), or some multiple of it, should look much better than player being forced to interpolate to something else...
