I prefer a hybrid approach which includes reserving the IP address in the DHCP database, and then manually configuring the printer with the address statically. I have found that many devices like printers and UPSs are more reliable if manually configured. Doing it this way means you have only one place to look to check IP assignment. Now if only this ideal were reality...
