Actually, the issue is not how many jacks you have, but how many ip
addresses you can get.  If your school admin. will assign you two ip
addresses, you can put both boxes directly on the ethernet with a small
"micro" ethernet concentrator (cost = <$100 US).

Actually, you'd want *two* nics -- one for the public net, and one to
connect to your Win machine.  A simple "criss-cross" cable will suffice
for connecting your two machines -- no hub necessary.  See the Ethernet
HOWTO for details.

Messy!  You could run a port redirector on the 386, or use Samba to mount
a share on the NT box on the 386.  IMHO, if you really want to do this,
you'd do better to put both boxes directly on the campus ethernet.
