Comrades confuse two things, the comparison between Che and Yahya Sinwar as heroes and martyrs of important struggles, and the validity of the strategies they advocated and followed. Che tried to generalized the Cuban experience to the world and failed.
Che's military leadership in the Cuban revolution, and his subsequent role in the revolutionary government, made him a larger than life figure. Nobody doubted his personal dedication to socialist revolution or to spreading it around the world. Nobody doubted his honesty or courage. Nevertheless, his strategy of guerrillerismo and foquismo was a tragic and disastrous failure for Che and for the entire Latin American left. Here in Colombia, thousands of young revolutionaries went to the mountains to join the FARC, the ELN, M-19 and other guerrilla organizations. Most of them died. The strategy was a disaster not just for those brave young revolutionaries who went tot he mountains, but for the entire Colombian left, the whole working class, and all of the oppressed. Yahya Sinwar, like Che, was courageous, honest, and selfless: a man who gave his life in the struggle for Palestinian liberation from Zionism and imperialism. Also like Che, he advocated a disastrous strategy that led to his own death, and the deaths of thousands of his followers. Unlike Che, Sinwar was neither a socialist nor a revolutionary. His ideology was religious. We should mourn the deaths of both of these heroic men.
