That was the point :) Eric (in my understanding) was implying that being a US-based company doesn't imply having to consider foreign (in this case german) laws. For internet services, almost anybody is able to access you service. But registering a domaine in CC TLDs and having it configured such a way that you get access to the service looks like an explicit move towards wanting this country's users to use your service. And as such, you should abide by their laws.
