Yes. It worked to restore the file.
Just to be sure, I restored all .plist files in ~/User/Applications
Support/Mailmate and the file in the (~/User/Preferences) prefs folder.

The mailbox colors are stored in this file:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist
And yes, going back to (much) older releases can wipe out some of the
newer settings in this file.
