Hi All, >Anoop Alias wrote >If I start a Linux User Group - kochi ,India how many would join ;) ? > I will be the first to join. ( Army wants you ! ) @all if there is a Linux user group with Infra/development focus , it will be great for our area. I know lot of enterprueners who have complained to me about the lack of skilled Linux admins and programmers. This makes them go to places like Bangalore , Chennai etc. There is need for such a group here. Other reasons are a) we do not have to crib here about the lack of technical discussions here. b) This group can retain it's spirit ( I think , any one who has spoken against FSF or RMS have hurt the feeling of a number of people here ) c) People who are making a living from software is forced to use the tool which employers or clients ( if you are a consultant ) are asking them to do. For them , Libre does not make a compelling stuff to here. d) there are thousands of (Windows !) programmers who want to explore Linux as a way to enhance their career or consulting prospects . @all Why i did not take a initiative ? I started a group ( now it has 50 + members ) which discusses programming in a vendor neutral way. You can find some of the best programmers which i have come across here. It is a word of mouth group and most of the discussions are conceptual in nature I feel , there is need for a Linux user group which caters to the infrastructure / development people , where things can be discussed with out the fear of hurting anyone. regards Praseed Pai http://praseedp.blogspot.com

Here are my personal views: 1. A name change would only create confusion for newbies - many wont know what Libre is ;while most know what Linux is. Although its technically correct to call it gnU user group or libre u g - Why cant we follow - "Dont fix it if it aint broken " rule? 2. for me personally Linux user group was more techie than libre .Libre has a more political (software way) inclination . 3.some people might search google to find us . why confuse them . Linux user group has international acceptance ;why make it local? . ================================ If I start a Linux User Group - kochi ,India how many would join ;) ? I would give a brand new site, space, traffic ,robust mailing list ; polls ; jabber_accounts ; individual email accounts for all (with quota ) - whatever you dream . we would follow the oder of international LUG 's and to start off would have full cor-dination over the web via collaboration softwares like wiki's . give me some yes as propellant and I am in the game .
