I too have that opinion.
 
Here are my arguments ( all might not agree )
 
a) Excellent knowlege of Linux Adminstration is going to be a prized skill 
 
b) There is need for Linux C/C++ programmers for writing Application Programs ( 
Every one is a kernel programmer now ! ) 
 
c) We can create a Business Eco system around the Linux + GNU tools to create 
more employment opportunities.
 
d) There are good systems like Mono ( which can give MS run for their money ) 
and there is need  for Linux/ Java Skill set in large numbers
 
e) We can discuss stuff like FreeBSD , NetBSD , OpenBSD  etc..
 
 
Other reason is 
 
We are a crowded state. Pragmatism is the best philosophy here. FSF philosophy 
is a great idea for a sparsely populated country like USA or Candada . 
For Kerala , we need
to "relax" this to save us. 
 
GNU hurd is never going to be a reality , so a 100% FSF owned computer 
operating system is a myth. ( Linux has spread like a virus and people have 
adopted it )
