I thought there was a way to reset as long as you have your install DVD?
You just access your key chain instead of installing the os again, and that
works. Don't quote me on the process, but I know I have done it.

Hi Esther,

As always, thanks. Happily I think I can find a pair of eyeballs to help me
do this.
Cheers,
Donna

thing to do is to get sighted assistance, and boot into single-user mode by
holding down the "s" key when you power up your Mac. VoiceOver will not
work in singlenuser mode. If you don't feel confident doing this by
yourself, and you have a record of the receipt from a local Apple Store or
online direct purchase which records the serial number of the machine and
you as the buyer, you may be able to take the machine into your local Apple
Store, along with your documentation and photo identification, and have
them do the recovery for you. This used to easier on older operating
systems like Snow Leopard, because you could just delete the hidden file
that indicated an initial setup had been done, and then reboot your machine
and proceed exactly as though you had just turned on your Mac for the first
time.
