Hi Donna, Did you associate an Apple ID with your Mac Mini and does it have Internet access? If you did, then it should be relatively straight forward to sort out.
When prompted for your password, enter something incorrect three times. THis should bring up a message inviting you to use your Apple ID to reset your password, and it should be self-explanatory from there. Hope that helps.
