Is there any built-in command to have VoiceOver read what is currently on the clipboard? If not, this may also be something to look at working into a script. Also, now that third party menu bar items are accessible, would it be possible to write one for the Dropbox icon?

Again, I don't know what will and won't be possible, but reminders and calendar is a good thought. I once tried to write a script to get the next calendar appointment, but Calendar doesn't support that natively and recurring appointments throw it way off, so I abandoned the project for now. Getting today's appointments and reminders may be easier, though. As to battery, my script will probably do what the other one does, except that you can customize it using the template. Want the time left first? No problem. Percentage first? Go for it! AC adapter status last, or gone altogether? Just set your template that way. Same for date and time - if you want them separate, just copy the script and make the two templates different, then rename one to "say time" and one to "say date", or whatever names you want. As to music, I do like the idea of integrating with iTunes. I see that Radium is scriptable, but there's no documentation - you must have to buy the program first. Unfortunately, since I'd never use it, I can't see myself buying it. If someone wants to send me the app's SDEF file, or even make the script to get the information themselves, contact me off-list. I know iTunes is scriptable, and I'll also look into VLC. Hopefully, the script will just use whichever supported media player is open so you'll only need one script for getting the current track.
