Hello Esther and Mary, Somehow, Mary's message never reached me. I have had problems with this list from time to time for no apparent reason.
I can't talk about Nook as I don't use it, but with Kobo, clicking on the link ADOBE DRM EPUB in my Kobo library or when I've just purchased a book downloads an Adobe content server message file labeled URLLink.acsm which I just click and Adobe Digital Editions opens and loads the book. All my DRM protected books are put automatically into a Digital Editions folder in my Documents folder and when I want to open a book, I just find it in there and open the file as usual. It's really very simple.
