Basically, there is a certification process that is handled directly by Apple. The three major exams are for Mountain Lion Essentials, Mountain Lion Server Essentials and Mac Hardware Essentials. Only authorized Certified Training Centers can administer these exams.
There are a few ways to approach the exam. It is entirely up to the person to decide. Of course, if you are serious about taking and passing the exam, then you will need to commit yourself to a good 2 to 4 months of preparation and study to take the exam. 1. There is an Apple Pro Training series that can be purchase via iBooks or through www.peachpitpress.com If you wanted to take the Mountain Lion Essentials exam, you would purchase the guide for that exam. Kevin White is the author. It is a 2300 page guide in iBooks. It covers 30 lessons and includes tasks that you should carry out on a test machine or on an external HD you can install a test OS. Read the guide, learn the questions at the end of each lesson and take plenty of notes. 2. For the iDevices, there is an app, Revise IT, which is truly valuable. There are study questions and simulated exams. I can't recommend that app enough. 3. Don't waste your time buying test kits and such online. The guide and Revise IT will be all you will need. 4. Find an ACTC that can give you the exam and offer a reader. You cannot take it on your own online. There are screen shots you will need to have described to you. There is no way around that, unfortunately. The guide is about $39, the iDevice App was, I think, free, and the exam is $200 to take. Take Care John D.
