Oh wait, Apple may not have bought them, but they are in contract with them. The microsoft "speech platform" can be downloaded on all ghersions of windows, just google search Microsoft Speech Platform. Some are high quality, like the Zira voice for US English, some are 8k. But they're all quite good.
