Once you find an app in the apps folder, you can add it to the dock by pressing 
command-shift-T.

For Google, once you land in the area that says URL, etc., you can stop 
interacting and then try reading the page again. I suspect, but I am not sure, 
that these URL results are in a frame, and you have to stop interacting with 
the frame before moving onto different material on the results page.
