I have 16GB of RAM and still frequently get Mail busy messages. The RAM upgrade
did help reduce iTunes busy and Safari busy messages, however.

If you're thinking of upgrading your RAM, which I generally think is a good
idea, I'd recommend monitoring your RAM use with Activity Monitor app which can
be found in the utilities folder. Check how much free memory you have when
first loading Mac OS X, and then whenever you're running programs that seem to
be running slowly, or when you have lots of apps and windows open, and then
after Mac OS X has been running for a while but no apps or windows (except for
the desktop and background programs) are running. If you find your system is
running slowly when you have little or no free RAM, I guess that's a good
indication that you could use an upgrade. If, however, you're not using your
current RAM to it's full capacity, then you probably don't need to upgrade.
