Hello,

First, this may be somewhat lengthy because I want to be thorough in
my explanation so as to minimize confusion. Furthermore, know this is
my limited experience after using the Scan Snap software and scanner
after only one day. With this said, my experience so far has been
wonderful. This is not predicated on the excellent reviews I have
investigated, nor is it hinged on the desire for efficiency; however,
these factors are highly attractive incentives.

Upon opening the box, I was amazed at the compact size of the actual
scanner. (Roughly estimated, the actual size is about 3 inches high
and 9 inches long; enough to accomodate a standard length of paper).
The box contains several cords and adaptors. One is a power cord that
is optional, and two are a USB cables. One USB cable is used to power
the scanner, while the second USB cable is necessary regardless of
either power supply option because it is what the scaner uses to
receive data. Once I read the manual (relevant portions only), I got
started scanning.

Scanning would have taken less time, but the critical piece of the
puzzle, is the software. Unbeknownst to the user, upon launching the
software, it appears inaccessible, but have no fear. One is able to
access the menu options by pressing VO-M, and interact with the
settings, but on a minimal bases. Really once the software is
installed, the scanner is plugged into the computer, one can just
position their paper in the feed tray, insuring the top of the paper
is face down, hit the scan button on the machine, and within 7
seconds, the paper shoots out from the bottom as it is being scanned,
and a image appears on the screen, which is an exact copy of the paper
scanned. (This was verified through sighted assistance).

This is where it took some time to figure-out the unlabled buttons
because in order for the unlabled button options to appear I had to
intitiate a new scan, so this took a while, but well worth the effort.
After each new scan, I relabled the buttons, as follows, delete, file,
mail, print, drop box, and EverNote. I only labled these because these
are the only relevant buttons for me. Pressing VO-space on each button
after a new scan opens a option window where you can interact with
said option accordingly. E-mail is nice because if you just need to
send a scanned image to a sighted person, you hit the e-mail button,
and it automatically inserts the file as an attachment - leaving you
with the (laborious task) of inserting the sender and subject
information. Drop box will save the image into your drop box, and
EverNote imports the file into the EverNote application if installed.

Once you have a scanned image saved in the folder of your choice, you
need to launch ABBYY Fine Reader for Scan Snap. Internet posts
recommend placing an icon in the doc, which is what I did. Once I
select the file I want to convert, the AFR converts the file and
places it into the designated folder assigned to the original scan.
Please note this will have the same file name, but it will be followed
with "processed by fine reader). This will also continue to be a PDF,
but accessible when using Preview.

Furthermore, please know this has only been performed on simple
documents, excluding forms. My particular scanner can scan ten pages
consecutively, and are automatically loaded after reach page has
finished scanning. This is because my scanner only holds ten pages at
a time. I will scan completed forms by hand, and not convert these, as
the images wil suffice for sending to sighted individuals. I will
report back for those who are interested.

If anyone wants to walk through this on Skype to get a virtual feel
for the way I use the scanner and software so far, please add me to
Skype using this e-mail address as a point of reference.

Hope this has answered some questions for the curious. :)
