Mine show up as "MPEG audio file". MPEG itself is a standard which includes a number of tracks, types and formats. MP3 refers to MPEG-2 Audio Layer III started out as the audio track for the original MPEG1 standard. It's a patented format and Apple pays a license fee for use of the encoder in their products. Hi,

The easiest way to import them into a separate list would be to create a Smart Playlist that add items according to Kind. That is, when you create the Smart Playlist, create it to match the Kind to be MPEG. You will still have duplicates in your main Music Library but the playlists will remain discriminated.

HTH.

Can I import them into a separate list, or will the import be placed in the music library where I will have ended up with multiple copies of the same tracks?

Thanks Tim, always generous with your responses.

Hi,

iTunes will not allow the conversion of purchased content to mp3 files, directly anyway. The restriction is due to the DRM encoding and licensing restrictions. If you wish to use iTunes to do this, you must first burn an audio CD from your purchased content, then re-import the tracks. You can choose to import them as mp3 content via your Import Preferences.

This seems like something other folks might want to know about. Can you give more details or what you want to do, what you tried and what went wrong? All my purchases have been in AAC but I was able to put a couple in a playlist and then burn that list to an audio CD with no problems. I was also able to use iTunes to convert the AAC files to MP3 and then burn those to an Audio CD. So far I can't seem to reproduce an issue with burning playlists.

Listers,

Is there a group for audio buffs on the mac amongst voiceover users? I need to ask some specific questions with regard to converting iTunes music tracks I've bought via the iStore into mp3 so that I can burn them onto a cd rw. It would appear iTunes won't let me burn any tracks I have bought through the store in mp3 format.

Feel free to write off-list.

Best wishes
